ROQUEFORT ROBBERY

My wife is from France. There are certain foods she prefers. Roquefort cheese ( a basic product from France) happens to be her choice over all others. So, I try to cater to her needs when I go shopping and buy her the things she likes. French bread, Romain lettuce, stuffed olives, Merlot wine ect.. and  Roquefort cheese.

Many of you out there are probably familiar with Roquefort. But, for those of you who are not. The basic ingredient in Roquefort cheese is Pasterurized  Sheeps milk.  When it’s allowed to age, under the right circumstances. Temperature, Humidity ect.. it developes microbes of Penicillium that becomes part of it and  gives it, it’s destinctive taste.  It’s a product discovered by mistake. By a sheep herder in France, centuries ago. When for some forgotten reason he left his cheese too long in the cave to cure. By the way, it’s very healthy for you and Lactose Free!

Roquefort is not that easy to find in stores. Unlike Blue Cheese made from cows milk( the recognized substitute for Roquefort), it’s not carried by most Super markets because of it’s limited availability and distribution in this country.

When you go shopping for food today, do you somtimes feel that the person behind the counter must have a “Gun” on you?  Well, they do! It’s called a scanner! And you and I are at their mercy. I will leave out the name of the city where these robberies took place, but not the names of the stores.  My initial purchase of Roquefort Cheese was at Rayley’s Super market.  I have done business in this particular store for over 30 years. Their Roquefort comes packaged in 1/8th blocks from a 2 lb round cheese. Priced at $23.99 per pound.  A 0.35lb block costs $8.40. I can’t tell you how much total weight in this cheese I have bought over the years. But since I buy on the average  three blocks a week, it must be substantial.

 I never would have even questioned the price if the store had not stopped carrying it for two weeks and I had to look around for another source.  So I went to a locally owned chain store called Scolairy’s and low an behold, they had Society Brand Roquefort.  Wow, what a find. Untill I got to the check out counter. $9.95 for less than 0.03oz! For 5 packages of cheese the charge was $56.65. I called the store manager, questioned the price  and he said he’d check into it! In the meantime I went home, got one of the Rayley’s celo wrapped blocks and returned with it to show him the descripancy. He weighed his package and dropped the price to $7.48. Now his package was in a hard plastic container about 3 1/2 X 4″. It probably weighed 0.01oz. A third of what I paid was for the packages!

 My next encounter was to go to another Rayley’s where I found some cheese and bought it. Two weeks later I went shopping at Trader Joe’s.  All of you may not be familiar with Trader Joe’s. It’s more of a Gourmets smaller scale supermarket located in California and Nevada. I buy my wines there because frankly, even with the surcharge of $1.00 a bottle the liqour distributors in Nevada have been collecting since the Mob ran gambling in the state, they still have the best prices.  Looking over the cheese I discovered they had just started carrying Roquefort! Society Brand. But in blocks from the round at $13.99 lb. A  0.51lb block cost me $7.01!!

Now I don’t know about you, but I think the above demonstrates some kind of Social Robbery. $4.39 for a loaf of Bread? That even with the inflated price of the ingredeints (average about $1.19) somebody is sticking up somebody every day. It would make any shopper wonder about how many things they may have purchased in the past, that they had been subjected to the same Retail Robbery. 

I have been around longer than most of you reading this. Bread was the staple when I was nine years old at 22 Cents a loaf. You could go to the Movies for 11 Cents. Gasoline was 23Cents a gallon. A new pair of Levies was $1.98.

 We have all lived in this great nation since those day’s and have prospered if we have put forward the necessary effort. But, Runaway inflation, price gouging and corporate fraud have been chewing up the average citizen of this country for the past 40 years. Basic values have changed dramaticaly. 34% of the population don’t call themselves Americans. 22 year olds are still on skate boards? The libral media is showing a representation of 14% of the poulation 85% of the time on T.V.. We are the richest country on earth. But or basic resources, pride of country, moral foundations and since of duty are demeaned and  are being miss directed. You are being subliminally indoctrinated to racial inter marraige and same sex marraige. Over and Over again by the intertainment media. So, why not steal from you at the Grocery counter? Your going along with all this anyway.
